Litter-Robot 4 features enhanced safety technology known as the SafeCat System with OmniSense® Detection that uses lasers to continuously analyze four safety zones, weight sensors, and anti-pinch software for enhanced cat detection. 

Yes. Litter-Robot 4 uses laser and weight sensor technology to detect when your cat enters and exits the globe, which triggers the countdown timer and cleaning cycle. TheSmartScale™will not recognize kittens that weigh less than 1.36 kg. Therefore, kittens that weigh less than 1.36 kg can use Litter-Robot 4, but not in automatic mode. Until they weigh enough, we recommend using your Litter-Robot in "semi-automatic" mode to keep your kitten safe and relieve you from litter box scooping. For "semi-automatic" mode, leave Litter-Robot powered off or unplugged. When you see your kitten has used it, wait about 7 minutes for the waste to clump, then power it on. Litter-Robot will automatically perform a clean cycle. Afterward, power it off again. Continue this supervised, semi-automatic mode until your kittens have gained sufficient weight to activate theSmartScale™.

No, Litter-Robot 4 does not require special litter. Litter-Robot works well with almost any clumping or scoopable litter. However, translucent or white-coloured litter (most often seen in crystal litter) may impact the litter level and Drawer Full Indicator (DFI) accuracy in Litter-Robot 4. Litter-Robot is not compatible with litters that are strictly absorbent, non-clumping, loose-clumping, newspaper-based, or wood-based pellets.

Yes, you can use any bag that fits in the waste drawer. However, please note that waste level readings may be inaccurate when using a dark bag, especially when the drawer is empty. As clumps start to collect in the drawer, the readings will become more accurate. For the most precise waste drawer readings and a seamless experience, we highly recommend using Litter-Robot Waste Liners.
